I couldn’t be happier with the outcome of this season…”

The Holy Innocents’ volleyball team is the first team in HI history to win a state championship two years in a row. Although the team lost some very valuable senior teammates last year to graduation, that did not stop them from working hard and claiming the state title.

With the student section overflowing with both classmates and school spirit, these girls could not have had more support and pride from their peers. They work hard and play even harder. To win a match, a team must win three out of five possible sets. That was no problem for our bears, as they defeated Lovett by claiming the first three sets in a row.

The fans burst into roaring cheers for the volleyball team.

Throughout the playoffs, the girls competed against Model, Coosa, St. Vincents’, and finally, Lovett. The players stayed motivated by wearing their Championship rings from the previous year, or carrying volleyballs throughout the school day. This reminded them to stay focused on their ultimate goal and prepared them for the win.

The team is overwhelmed with joy as they score the game-winning point.

It is easy to see the determination in these strong players’ eyes, especially during that final, game-winning set. Haley Collins, a junior and one of the captains of the volleyball team, says the feeling of being back-to-back state champs “is unreal… I couldn’t be happier with the outcome of this season and the dedication from all of the girls.”
