Mockingjay Part 1 is the beginning to an epic finale of the Hunger Games trilogy.

In my opinion there was no better way to kick-off the end to this well-loved series that definitely keeps us on our toes. This movie had my heart racing the entire time and the amount of anxiety in the movie theater was insane.

It had the perfect combination of action, suspense, drama, and a little bit of romance. If you haven’t watched it yet, this movie is an absolute must-see.

I have not read Mockingjay, but 10th grader Cameron Jackson says, “I was happily surprised by the movie because it showed and built up all of the important information from the first half of the book, but left out all of the unnecessary stuff. I thought that the Mockingjay book was really hard to get into and that the first part wasn’t that interesting, but the movie added more action.”

However, I have heard from others that they wished it had shown more war and rebellion instead of inside District 13. We did get to see more of Katniss and Gale since Peeta wasn’t present, which is a plus for team Gale. The romance aspect of the story continues to be a mystery and her choice will hopefully  be revealed in Mockingjay Part 2. We will also find out how the revolution against the capitol ends. There is so much hype for Hunger Games, and it will be hard waiting for Part 2.
